Dr Sandrine Mignon is a Research Director at INRAE, the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment, based in France, and is a visiting researcher in our department this summer.

Her research focuses on the genetics of animal adaptation, with particular emphasis on poultry adaptation to diet and the genetic basis of digestive efficiency. Through her work on feed efficiency, alternative feed ingredients, and integrated genetics–nutrition approaches, she contributes to the development of more sustainable and resource-efficient poultry production systems. She also co-leads the Genetics, Nutrition, Systems team, which brings together expertise in genetics, physiology, nutrition, and production systems to support the agroecological transition of poultry farming.

Feed efficiency is one of the major challenges facing modern poultry production, combining economic, environmental, and sustainability concerns. But how can we accurately measure individual feed intake in thousands of birds?

In this presentation, Sandrine will take you through the journey from the development of electronic feeding systems to their application in research aimed at improving feed efficiency in poultry breeding programs. Finally, Sandrine will discuss how integrating feeding behavior data opens new opportunities to better understand the biology of feed efficiency and to refine future selection strategies.
