The second annual Animal Biosciences Graduate Student Research Symposium was another resounding success! The one-day event brought together graduate students, faculty and OMAFRA staff and showcased the outstanding scientific contributions that our department continues to make to agricultural science.

Deputy Minister of OMAFRA and two-time U of G grad, Dr. John Kelly, delivered opening remarks. Oral and poster presentations provided updates on a range of topics from the impact of pecking blocks on poultry behavior and welfare, nutritional requirements of gestating sows, ewes and cows to the use of  insects as a protein source to boost growth and support gut health in rainbow trout. The symposium concluded with a talk by Mike McMorris from the Livestock Research and Innovation Corporation (LRIC) on getting research into action.

Congratulations to the award winners of this year's symposium and thank you to the organizers and everyone who attended to make this another fantastic event!
