CGIL Seminar – Attitudes of Peruvian llama and alpaca farmers towards genetic improvement

We are happy to have Dr. Maria Wurzinger, from the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University presenting for us on Friday, September 26^th, 2025. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Attitudes of Peruvian llama and alpaca farmers towards genetic improvement”

Speaker Biography: Dr. Maria Wurzinger is working at the Department of Animal Science, Iowa State University. She received her Master's in animal production and her PhD in animal breeding from BOKU-University in Austria. She has over 20 years of experience advancing smallholder livestock production across the Global South. Specializing in community-based breeding programs, she has helped transform this approach from a niche concept into an internationally recognized model, enhancing food security and livelihoods for farming families. She thrives in interdisciplinary teams and is dedicated to bridging the gap between social and natural sciences to help farmers enhance their livelihoods.
