CGIL Seminar – Dr. Ivan Pocrnic

Good morning CGIL,  

We are happy to have Dr. Ivan Pocrnic, visiting us this week from the Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh presenting a special CGIL seminar for us on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025. The seminar will begin at 8:30 AM EDT/EST in OVC LLC 1713 and on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Use of genomics in small populations”

Speaker Biography: Dr. Ivan Pocrnic’s main research interest is in the development of novel breeding methodologies and tools. His work involves a synergy between theoretical quantitative genetics and practical animal breeding. His main expertise is the application of genomic selection on big datasets for various species (pigs, chickens, cattle, sheep, etc.) and various models, with emphasis on single-step genomic prediction.

Before starting his research group and tenure-track role at The Roslin Institute (The University of Edinburgh, UK), he served as a core scientist in Dr. Gorjanc’s group, and previously as a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Misztal’s group at the University of Georgia (USA), where he also earned his PhD in Animal Genetics and Breeding. His experience includes work in Croatia’s national evaluation centre (now the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food). He holds an MSc in Animal Genetics and Breeding and a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Zagreb (Croatia).
