The Ontario Agricultural College and Department of Animal Biosciences extends sincere sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Bill Szkotnicki, who passed away on September, 18 2019. Bill was the Manager of IT and Computing in the Department of Animal Biosciences and his loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew him.

A long-standing professional staff member of the department, Bill first came to the University of Guelph in 1974 after graduating with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.

 The call for applications for the 2019 OASV-Maxwell Swine Legacy Scholarship is now open. The deadline is Fri Sept 20th 11:59 EST.

With a new school year starting, the Campbell Centre for the Study of Animal Welfare (CCSAW) Student Chapter would like to give you the opportunity to become involved with our organization.

This past July at the Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) Annual Meeting in Saskatoon, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced an $11.4 million investment in Canadian dairy research. The Dairy Research Cluster 3 (DRC3) builds upon DRC1 and DRC2 that ran from 2010-2018 to stimulate productivity, sustainability, and profitability on farms, and to improve knowledge of the health benefits of milk and dairy products consumption.

The  Department of Animal Biosciences invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position (12 months per year) at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Meat Science/Muscle Biology. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Animal Science, Meat Science, Muscle Biology, or a closely related field with a focus on red meat species. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral experience who can demonstrate clear potential for excellence in research and teaching.

The Department of Animal Biosciences conducts outstanding research in the areas of nutrition, nutrition modelling, physiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, welfare and behavior, breeding, genetics and meat science.
